Julia Kelada rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Recently I attended a wine tasting. The three wines that were being showcased were three dry white wines. All three typical wines of their grape and their region.

We were offered a Sauvignon Blanc, I know these types, a Chardonnay, I love these types, and for the first time a Gewürztraminer ....I had never heard of this type!

The Sauvignon Blanc and the Chardonnay were as always a pleasure to taste, and then the curiosity and anticipation of the Gewürztraminer ..... woah! My face made a contorted, ouch what is that on my tongue reaction, squinting my eyes and wanting to reach back for a slurp of the Chardonnay, but how great wine tastings are. Slowly we started to understand the actually very well made, although specific taste of the Gewürztraminer .

Initially I thought I would never intentionally buy a bottle of this type of wine, but then I allowed it to introduce itself to me.
Pale yellow straw like in colour. On the nose this is a very intense wine. Classic scents of lychee and roses come forward and as it starts to release its aromas a petroleum almost ammonia base is present.
On the palate this is a dry wine with soft acidity. It showcases again the lychees and a touch of citrus. The floral notes of roses are still present and then the petroleum. The underlying bitterness is very apparent but then start to think of what this wine could be paired with and this is when you start to understand its delight.  Cheese with intense characteristics like a Monistère cheese variety, but then I had a light bulb moment.....oh my goodness, as bitter and as tart as this wine is drinking it just as is, imagine it with Sushi.....oh my ...yes!!!! Now it all made perfect sense, I could almost relate it to a sake, which is the drink of choice when eating Sushi the raw fish with fresh ginger, oh now I see the marriage of perfection! So next time reach for a Gewurztraminer, you wont be dissapointed!

So yes, lesson learned, let a wine introduce itself to you, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Now I'm off to buy myself a bottle ...who would have thought!

Bottoms up!
