Pretty pronounced and complex on the nose and palate! Developing aromas include: ripe black fruit, baking spice, vanilla, cedar, and a touch of earthy minerality. The flavours are equally pronounced with more toasty oak, mocha, butter and a touch of chocolate infused with cherry/strawberry/cranberry. This wine is slightly off-dry (6g/l), with high acidity, medium (+) bodied, medium (+) tannins and long finish. This is an outstanding quality Rioja that still has potential for ageing. I imagine it will be drinking well into 2018-2020. Pair with any roasted red meats or game meats. (Tasted Nov 2015)

A Spanish red wine from Rioja designated Gran Reserva gives you a "heads-up" on the wine's profile. (It's aged a minimum of five years with 2 years in the barrel). This aging results in a complex dry wine with dark chocolate, leather, and spice flavours, well integrated tannins and balanced with some acidity. It was the perfect complement to a leg of lamb rubbed with a variety of fragrant spices and slow roasted.

Aged to perfection this wine is in its prime. Spicy and leathery this medium bodied wine serves wonderfully with old cheddar cheese and would be a nice compliment to wild game.

A seductive and complex wine with beautiful rustic layered aromas and flavours that complement pastas dishes and would be divine with beef and a mushroom risotto. For under $25 this is an incredible value and I'd highly recommend stocking up on this already aged wine in order to enjoy over the fall and winter. Tasted October 2014. 92 points. Oct 24, 2014: Deep ruby, cherry, red berry, American oak spice, chocolate, dill, leather, earthy notes on the nose. Medium body, fresh acidity carries sour cherry, cranberry, and raspberry fruit backed by vanilla, spice and fine tannins. A well structured and classy lighter/leaner style Rioja, drinking nicely now and should continue to drink well for ten+ years. Nice valued Gran Reserva at $23, worth seeking out.

Bordón Gran Reserva Tempranillo 2005, Rioja D.O.C.A., Spain: Lovely, mature aromas of leather, cigar box and dust in this full-bodied Rioja red wine produced by Bodegas Franco-Españolas. Not fruit-forward: a contemplative wine, not a talkative one. Full-bodied and smooth. Ready to drink now, especially with veal. Highly recommended. Drink: 2012-2017. 12295 13% D 750 mL $27.95 Score: 91/100. October 25, 2014 Top Rated Red Wine. Harmonious Hard Cheese Wine Full Review
