The wine has a fine, complex nose combining ripe red fruits with notes of grilled toast and spices. In the mouth it s rich, structured and powerful, perfectly balanced between fruit and tannins with a long finish.

Medium ruby with purplish hues. Plum, blueberry, spice and alcohol on the nose. The flavours are rich red/black fruit with hint of spice, medium acidity and medium tannins. A nice Bordeaux Merlot for the price.

Blueberry, cedar, plum, and spice notes in the aroma. The flavour is spicy, with a touch of strawberry in addition to the plums in the nose. There's a little bit of firm tannins. Overall, a very solid glass of wine that would pair well with medium cheeses.

Deep ruby colour. Aromas of currant, blackberries, cherry and cassis. Similar fllavours come through on the palate, along with some spicy notes. Smooth and easy drinking with some light tannins, would be a nice complement to a roast.

Deep and bright ruby colour with a Bordeaux nose of cassis, cedar and eucalyptus. A mouthfeel of light fruits and dry tannins with a medium acidity that lasts and finishes on cherry notes. The subtle merlot flavours are overwhelmed by tannin but emerge with the finish. A bargain at the price, certainly a wine to purchase and pay down for another 5 - 8 years and to enjoy with rich sauces and meats.

On the nose subtle well rounded fruits, black cherries, black berries, raspberries, wood and toasted notes.
On the palate cherries, wild fruit of black berries, an earthiness opens up in this wine, bramble bushes, crab apple jelly, tobacco leaves. Subtle spice right at the very end of this wine. delicious well rounded tannins, good lengthy finish.

Oct 5, 2014: Medium ruby, sweet nose of red berry, cherry, confectioners sugar, slight green pepper note along with light baking spice.Medium body, lean fruit of red currant and cherry, mineral and some toasted wood with good acidity and somewhat gritty tannins. This will be best at the table with hard cheeses or beef dishes.

Cheval Noir 2012, Bordeaux AOC, France: This value-priced Merlot comes from the heart of the Bordeaux region. It's savoury with aromas of tart blackcurrant and cassis. The Mahler-Besse family has been producing wines here since 1895. The name derives from a powerful black horse that worked in the vineyards in the 19th century.
