An explosion of fruit, mainly berries is the dominant characteristic of this Pinot Noir from California. Fog Head Reserve Pinot Noir 2011 from Monterey, a county on the Pacific Coast of California is the perfect pairing with meat, in particular with pork. I had this wine with a risotto with sausage and the combination was great. The fat in the sausage was cut by the acidity of this Pinot Noir that at the end was still able to maintain its structure. The fruitiness and the minerality is given by Monterey county, absolutely suitable for this delicate grape that benefits from the currents of the Pacific Ocean to creates the perfect climate along with the California sun.
Visual examination: crystal clear, this Pinot Noir has a ruby-garnet colour and a good consistency for this kind of grape with a typical transparency.
Olfactory examination: moderately intense and complex, this wine has a fine quality and it is fruity and mineral with very dominant berry, cherry and vanilla notes with a note of leather.
Taste-olfactory examination: dry, fresh in acidity, warm with 13,5% alcohol, smooth, this is a balanced wine with a moderately intense and persistent after-taste. Fine in quality and ready to drink. Best served at room temperature.
