In my reviews of #OnTastesBC wines I've left the best for the last! This was by far my favourite BC wine so far. Dark garnet, almost opaque in the glass the nose just kept going and going with aromas of cooked dark fruits like blackberries and plums. Complex with layers of fruit, smoke, leather and tobacco it delivered in the mouth as well. The tannins were smooth and the mouthfeel juicy with all that fruit. A very balanced wine with a long lingering finish. I would drink this wine (gladly) on its own or pair it with food - a bbq'd steak or beef bourguignon immediately comes to mind. I'm thinking a few bottles are a must for my cellar!

On colour, the Mission Hill Family Estate Quatrain holds a deep garnet red hue. On the nose, scents of cherry, blackberries and spice are present. On the palate, smoothly refined tannins, berries, tobacco and vanilla provide an unforgettable long finish. This is a complex red blend that continues to give, the more you drink it. A truly elegant, and full bodied wine.

Blend of 35% Merlot, 30% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc. Very nice aromas of dark fruits, blackberries, blackcurrants and (French) oak. Full bodied with good structure. It's very smooth with blackcurrant, dark cherry, ripe dark fruits on the palate. Refined tannins are well-integrated. Well-balanced with a long finish and hints of sweet fruit. Very approachable right now, but could be cellared another 1-2 years. Tasted Jan/2013.

This is a great blend! Will definitely get better with aging! And this wine is asking forr food, great with rich cheeses.
Inky dark red, opaque in the glass.
On the nose smoked meat, baked fruit, allspice, nutmeg.
On the palate acidity is little rough but disappears with good food pairing. Acidity and tannins are a little unbalanced, but will get better with aging.
Long fruity finish.

A real treasure! Great purple hue with chocolate and dark black cherry on the nose with a dry tart cherry and hints of cranberry on the palatte. This wine was forceful, mature and had great balance. Tasting with walnuts the fruit is brought out and the tannin's were cut ... very enjoyable.

A heavy bottle and stunningly simple label, pays homage to the truly great wine it embraces. Adjectives such as "spectacular" spring to mind. The combination of merlot, syrah, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc is simply outstanding.

The Quatrain could pass for a Chilean wine, with it's robust tannins and multi-layered complexity. It starts with red fruits, but as it warms it becomes completely something else. Herbaceous and earthy with undertones of butterscotch and a hell of a kick at 14%. (As good as French wines three times the price.)

This is a beauty....you want at least two bottles, one to drink now and one to save for later. Lovely aromas of dark berries (think blackberries), dates and dried fruit, and spice...these follow through on the palate, tied in with smooth tannin and pepper on finish. Yum.

This is nice, nice, nice. An inky presence in the glass and a spicy, figgy, smoky, peppery, dark cherry, bouquet of aromas. The silky mouth feel and the long fruity finish make this wine very enticing. A perfect, warming red wine for the winter.

Holy Blackberry Jam, Batman! Along with chocolate/leather/tobacco and some fresh ground black pepper :) This gorgeous vino rosso has such a nice soft and sexy full body to it; I'd like to invite Mr.Quatrain over for a slow roasted leg of lamb sometime. Just sayin'. I can still taste its' blackberry jam finish. In no way is that depressing!

Beautiful, rich purple. A nice balance of jammy fruit and structure; cassis, blueberry pie filling, milk chocolate, with a dash of pepper and expresso. Feels like this wine just soaked up the sun! Filet mignon?

If you are thinking of spending $45 on a bottle of wine then buy the Quatrain. Merlot forward Bordeaux blend - smooth with a hint of sweetness. Tannic and earthy a little like a Côtes du Rhône on my palate. Sheer poetry (I just learned the word Quatrain this week)

A blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cab Sauv, and Cab Franc this one was a surprise to me as I hadn’t heard much about it. It bursts out of the glass with beautiful dark colour then dark fruit, cigar smoke, and the smell of a cellar. On the palate you get a multi layered wine with the fruit jumping out first before the tannins hit your cheeks. Then it closes with the cigar smoke which lingers on your palate for awhile. It is so well integrated I had to taste it about 10 times to make my true assessment. Not that I minded. A perfect pairing with prime rib or really any good red meat

Would score higher if it was around the $30 price range. Needs time. At least 3-5 years in the cellar. What a wonderful blend. Opens up after 2.5 hours. On the nose: sweet prunes, black cherries and hints of blueberries. On the palate : Full body. Concentrated flavors of blackcherries, prunes and blueberries. Very well balanced integrated oak. The 2009 Mission Hill Quatrain, composed of 35% Merlot, 30% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc that was aged for 15 months in French Oak, is a medium bodied, fruity to integrated wine, with intense aromas of strawberry/raspberry, black cherry, cedar, thyme, coconut and vanilla. It has a good structure, is fruit forward, has refined tannins (decant for 30-60 min) and a long finish. This wine is meant to be enjoyed by itself; though ready to drink now, it will benefit from cellaring as it has an evolution potential - drink 2014/15-2020+. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 92 pts - recommended buy. Tasted Jan/13.
