Zonte's Footstep Love Symbol Grenache from McLaren Vale, South Australia is a dry, medium to full-bodied vegan-friendly red that opens with a perfumed and irresistible nose of pomegranate, dried cranberry, orange blossom, cinnamon, and a lifted thread of red licorice and warm earth. On the palate it is juicy and supple, with silky tannins, bright cleansing acidity, and a long, round finish of kirsch, anise, and a whisper of cocoa that keeps you reaching for another glass. Serve at room temperature and enjoy from 2026 through 2033. Canadian-born winemaker and owner Brad Rey, who caught the wine bug in Calgary before studying oenology in Australia and ultimately settling in McLaren Vale with his Australian wife, crafts this wine from old bush vines growing in the alluvial Kurragong geology formation, using 60% whole bunches in open fermenters with partial carbonic maceration to lock in freshness and fruit complexity before aging in well-seasoned French and American oak. The winery takes its unusual name from a vineyard that was first planted in 1893 with Zante currant vines, later replanted and eventually discovered to contain large boulders with unique markings that inspired the brand's identity when a group of like-minded wine enthusiasts purchased the property in 1999. Pair it with grilled sausages and a smoky onion and capsicum relish, where the wine's juicy red fruit and spice will cut through the richness, or try it alongside a gourmet burger loaded with aged cheddar and caramelized onions, letting the wine's bright acidity and round tannins balance every decadent bite.
