Vesevo Falanghina Beneventano I.G.T. from Campania is a medium-bodied, unoaked white grown on volcanic hillside soils in Benevento, where the Falanghina grape has been producing wine since the ancient Romans prized it as one of the most celebrated varieties of the southern Italian peninsula. On the nose it's lifted and aromatic, with white nectarine, dried white blossom, tangerine zest, and a cool saline minerality from the volcanic soils. The palate is crisp and fresh, with lemon curd, green apple, a thread of crushed chalk, and a long, zesty finish with bright, food-friendly acidity. Vesevo was established in 2000 as a collaboration between Farnese Vini and local Campanian partners, taking its name from the ancient Latin word for Mount Vesuvius, whose eruptions created the volcanic tuff and mineral-rich soils that distinguish Campanian whites from any other white wine region in Italy. Serve it well chilled now through 2028 with steamed clams and mussels, where the wine's saline mineral character and bright acidity are a textbook match, or try it with crab cakes and a squeeze of lemon for a light summer pairing.

Food pairings: pan-fried freshwater fish, steamed clams and mussels hotpot, crab cakes.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
