Valentin Leflaive CV 19 30 Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut from Champagne A.O.C. is an elegant, medium-bodied 100% Chardonnay Champagne sourced from approximately 40-year-old vines grown on the Premier and Grand Cru clay-limestone and chalk soils of Cramant and Vertus in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, spending 39 months on its lees before disgorgement to build a remarkable depth of texture and aromatic complexity. This is a Blanc de Blancs, made from 100% Chardonnay, thus the moniker blanc des blancs (white wine from white grapes). It opens with a beautifully layered nose of warm croissant, roasted almond, poached pear, and dried apricot, leading to a creamy, generous palate underpinned by a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity and a long, stony, mineral-laced finish of quiet authority. Serve it well chilled and enjoy it through 2026. Cellar master Elysé Brigandat oversees vinification at this exciting young Champagne house, working under the direction of Jean Soubeyrand, who co-orchestrates this ambitious project alongside founder Olivier Leflaive, the legendary Burgundian négociant whose family has been growing and making wine in Puligny-Montrachet since 1580. Fascinatingly, Maison Valentin Leflaive was born not in Champagne but in Burgundy, named in honour of Olivier's young son Valentin, and launched in 2015 with a vision to transpose the precision and terroir focus of great white Burgundy to the legendary chalky soils of the Côte des Blancs, making it one of the most philosophically distinctive new houses in the region.
