Trivento Stratus Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is a landmark blend from three of Mendoza's most celebrated Uco Valley terroirs, an ambitious, multi-layered assemblage that places it firmly among the most serious wines emerging from Argentina today. Crafted by Germán Di Césare, Trivento's highly regarded technical director who joined the winery as a young assistant winemaker in 2002 and has spent over two decades decoding the nuances of Mendoza's finest parcels, Stratus draws equal parts from Gualtallary's austere, tension-driven soils, the floral elegance of Paraje Altamira and the fluid linearity of Los Chacayes, aged 18 months in French oak combining barrels of varying size and age to preserve the wine's natural energy without masking its terroir. It pours a dense violet-ruby and opens with an intricately woven nose of dark blackcurrant, wild blueberry and cedar smoke, with threads of dried violet, roasted earth and a mineral coolness that recalls the high-altitude vineyards from which it was drawn. On the palate it is dry and full-bodied, with concentrated, finely textured tannins, a taut structural backbone and a long, precise finish that unfolds with remarkable composure. A fascinating trivia: the name Stratus comes from the Latin for "layers," a direct reference to the way this wine reveals itself in successive waves of complexity as it opens in the glass, exactly as Di Césare intended when designing this multi-terroir blend. Serve it slightly below room temperature and cellar it through 2035. It is outstanding alongside a grilled bone-in ribeye with chimichurri, where the wine's dark fruit and structured tannins find their equal, or pair it with a slow-roasted lamb shoulder with garlic and cumin for a deeply Andean table.

Food pairings: grilled bone-in ribeye with chimichurri, slow-roasted lamb shoulder with garlic and cumin, duck confit with wild berry reduction.
