Price: $29.95

Drink: 2017-2025

Bottle size: 750 ml

Alcohol: 13%

Sweetness: Dry

Wine Type: Red Wine

Winery: Tenuta Di Ghizzano

Agent: Frontier Wine Merchants

Natalie's Score: 92/100

This robust Italian red wine is a blend is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine was first made in 1985, and from vines planted in hilly vineyards planted 35 kilometres from the Tuscan coastline. They are organically farmed using indigenous yeast and the wine is aged for 16 months in second-use barrels and another 14 months in bottle at the winery before release. Classic and structured and intriguing. Black fruit and smoky mystery on the nose. The palate floods the senses with black plums, anise and dark spices. Considerable structure, complexity and concentration. This will do well in the cellar, but it'll be difficult to wait.

Food pairings: rich tomato sauce with cheese-filled pasta, vegetarian lasagne, meat loaf.

Paul Lupinacci rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This wine sets up like a classic Sangiovese with earthy/plum aromas (although it contains 30% Cabernet Sauvignon). On the palette there is plum and dark fruit with a hint of anise and strong tannins. The finish is long pleasant.
