MINE: This Nero d'Avola is vibrant and fruit-forward, offering ripe cherry, currant and wild herb aromas, complemented by a hint of spice. It’s a medium-bodied wine with smooth tannins and a refreshing, crisp finish. The bright berry notes provide a lively, yet mellow character, making it a delightful choice now to enjoy with a roasted porchetta sandwich or a grilled steak. NEW: Regaleali sits on a high, cooler plateau in the centre of Sicily, well above the island's coastal heat, and Tasca d'Almerita's Nero d'Avola shows the benefit. Black cherry and pomegranate bring real richness, joined by a floral edge. Smooth tannin keeps the wine easygoing throughout. Black olive settles in as a final flourish. Grilled steak or braised beef would make a hearty match. Sicily spent decades being underestimated, and wines like this one are still quietly correcting the record.
