Deep dark core with opaque magenta edge. Lifted aromatics with plums, spice, chocolate, black fruits with olive and aniseed notes. C oncentrated palate which is defined by exceptional depth and weight, wonderfully framed with some velvety texture and fine-grained tannins. Plum, blackberry and spice all play roles with opulent fruit driving the wine with the complexity being derived from some chocolate, tobacco, aniseed and well-integrated oak having the deftest influence. We release this wine to ensure the drinkability upon release as well as longevity although do suggest allowing this exceptional Shiraz to breathe and allow the tannin to melt away to truly reflect perfectly who we are and where we are in terms of fruit source and sub regional character from another great Barossa Valley vintage, which celebrates our commitment to the region, traditional winemaking, and hands off approach. (Huon Hooke,therealreview.com,Aug 2025) MINE: The Old Dog 2022 Shiraz from the Barossa Valley is a rich, mouth-filling red, offering generous dark fruit flavours of ripe blackberry and toasty oak spice. The wine is smooth and savoury on the palate, with grapes sourced from multiple northwestern Barossa Valley sites. At just $20, it offers excellent value and pairs perfectly with grilled meats from the barbecue, especially steak and ribs. Enjoy it now or allow it to evolve through 2030. NEW: Shanahans pulls fruit from several vineyards scattered across the northwestern Barossa for this Shiraz, bottled under the Old Dog label. Blackberry and plum open the nose, with toasted oak spice and a whisper of tobacco layered behind. The tannins turn velvety as the wine settles into the glass. The finish runs long and smooth. A wine that calls itself an old dog clearly isn't worried about being fashionable, and it doesn't need to be. Pair it with a peppered ribeye or braised short ribs for a proper cold-weather dinner.
