Natalie's Score: 91/100

A smoky, robust Australian red wine blend of Shiraz, Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) and Grenache. Old vines lend concentration and depth of flavour to the fruit. Ripe jammy dark fruit, vanilla, pepper, anise, smoky vanilla and toasty oak spice. Can handle smoky BBQ ribs on the grill or a well-marbled rib eye done rare. Tannins are seriously grippy.

Shiraz Mataro Grenache food pairings: lamb Bolognese, beef enchiladas, barbecued ribs in sauce, hamburger, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

From the Barossa Valley, Rolf Binder Heinrich 2016 is so smoky and rich on the nose with dark ripe black fruit, dark cherry and vanilla aromas. Rich and smoky on the alate as well! Full-bodied, juicy and concentrated with ripe dark berry, plum compote, dark cherry, pepper, vanilla and baking spice and smoky, meaty flavours on the palate. Tannins are grippy and this wine is screaming for a grilled, well-marbled steak done rare! - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
