Mocha and dark chocolate from loads of oak aging. At 15% alcohol, this is hefty. Not a lot of ripe fruit here, mostly oak.

Zinfandel food pairings: pizza topped with dried salami, ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Trevor Sabourin - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This zinfandel strikes a great balance between fruit and oak character. The aromas are of raspberry and blackberry jam, sweet cherries, toast, coffee, smoke, menthol, cinnamon, sage, and leather. On the palate there is fresh red and black berries and cherries, toast, vanilla, warm baking spices, menthol, tobacco, and black olive. At 15% alcohol, the wine is big and mouthfilling, but held together nicely by medium tannins and medium-high acidity. Finishes with coffee, red fruits, spice, and mint. Very tasty and enjoyable. Pair with smoky ribs or steak.
Rodney Strong is well-known in California for big, blockbuster red wines. This Zinfandel is no exception. Pair with pepperoni pizza. - Community Wine Reviews
