Ravanal Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied red aged in French and American oak, crafted from sustainably grown fruit in one of Chile's most celebrated red wine valleys, and at this price it makes a compelling argument that great Cab doesn't need a famous name on the label. On the nose it opens with crushed blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, and cedar. The palate is plush and structured, with dark plum, rosemary, and a long, smooth finish with fine-grained tannins. ViƱa Ravanal was founded in 1951 by Mario Ravanal, one of Chile's pioneering enologists, who planted his first vines in the rolling hills of Placilla in the Colchagua Valley on soils that include a remarkable collection of vines over 100 years old, and today the Ravanal family is in its third generation of winemaking. Drink it now through 2030 with slow-braised beef long ribs, where the wine's dark fruit and firm structure hold their own against the richness, or try it with grilled venison steak where its cedar and tobacco depth echo the gaminess of the meat.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: grilled venison steak, slow-braised beef long ribs, grilled game sausages.
