Pecchenino's San Giuseppe Barolo from Piedmont is an elegant, full-bodied red wine showcasing notes of wild cherry, rose petal, leather and earthy truffle. This dry, age-worthy Nebbiolo displays firm yet refined tannins that will soften beautifully over the next fifteen years. Serve it slightly below room temperature with braised short ribs in red wine reduction as the wine's structure cuts through the rich meat, or pair it with wild mushroom risotto finished with aged Parmigiano-Reggiano where the earthy flavors harmonize perfectly. Winemaker Orlando Pecchenino tends his family's historic vineyards in the Dogliani area, where the San Giuseppe cru sits on steep, mineral-rich slopes that impart remarkable complexity to the Nebbiolo grapes. The Pecchenino family has been making wine in this corner of Piedmont since the early 1900s, though they didn't bottle their first Barolo until the 1990s when they expanded beyond their renowned Dogliani Dolcetto. This San Giuseppe bottling will continue to develop layers of dried fruit, tobacco and balsamic notes through 2040.

Barolo food pairings: game roasts, roast goose, rabbit fricassee.
