Pavillon Du Glana from Saint Julien opens with aromas of blackcurrant, black plum, toasted oak, and wet slate with whispers of bay leaf and tobacco. Dry and medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins, it flows across the palate with concentrated dark berry fruit before finishing with persistent mineral notes and spice. Serve it slightly below room temperature or cellar it through 2034 and beyond. Jean-Paul Meffre oversees the estate alongside his sons Julien and Ludovic, continuing the family legacy established when his father Gabriel Meffre purchased the dilapidated property in 1961 with only three hectares of vines remaining and completely renovated the entire estate, and this second wine of Château du Glana reflects the same meticulous care given to the grand vin with a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot aged for 12 months in oak barrels on their 59-hectare vineyard planted on classic Garonne gravel soils. Pair this elegant Bordeaux with herb-crusted roast beef where the wine's structured tannins complement the savory, charred flavors, or enjoy it with grilled lamb chops as the wine's concentrated fruit enhances the rich, gamey meat beautifully.

Food pairings: herb-crusted roast beef, grilled lamb chops, aged Comté cheese.
