Palacio del Burgo Rioja Crianza is a dry, medium-bodied 100% Tempranillo from the sun-drenched Ebro river valley town of Alfaro in Rioja Oriental, pouring a vibrant ruby-garnet and opening with a generous, classically Riojan nose of crushed redcurrant, sun-dried fig and dried rosehip, wrapped in the warm, welcoming embrace of toasted coconut and sweet pipe smoke from its twelve months in American oak barrels. The palate is supple and approachable, with smooth, chalky tannins and a fresh acidity that carries the wine's ripe fruit to a satisfying, gently spiced finish with a lingering note of dried herbs and worn saddle leather. Serve it at room temperature and enjoy from now through 2030. This wine earned a prestigious 95-point Gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025, an outstanding achievement for a Crianza at this price point. Winemaker Gorka Etxebarria has shaped the wines of Bodegas Burgo Viejo since 2003, crafting this Tempranillo for a cooperative born in 1987 when six neighbouring farming families in Alfaro pooled their resources and passion for the land, a venture that has since grown to encompass sixteen families and the next generation of winemakers. Try this alongside a slow-braised fricassee of rabbit with wild mushrooms and thyme, where the wine's earthy warmth and red-fruit brightness are a natural pairing, or pour it with a roast duck with cherry sauce for a deeply satisfying Spanish table.

Food pairings: venison stew, fricassee rabbit, roast duck, partridge.
