Dark and purple plums on the nose are followed through with dark chocolate and espresso-coffee notes on the palate and blueberry jam. Rich and full-bodied and smooth. Perfect for meat lovers' pizza and lasagna. Great value in this party pleaser of a wine. The grapes come from vines that are 45+ years old. Highly recommended.

Zinfandel food pairings: pizza, pasta marinara, beef fajitas, sesame pork ribs, barbecued chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane LeFresne rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Why I Tried this Wine: I always like a good Zin, however, this was featured as part of my food and wine course. Visit the winery located in California’s Gold Rush County and see a 42 foot stone fireplace, along with a museum dedicated to the gold rush era. Wine and gold, what more could you want?

Tasting Notes: a dark cherry colour

Aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cherry, vanilla and spices. Combined these aromas give this wine cooked fruit (jammy) notes on the nose along with what I like to call sweet smoke.

Flavours of raspberry, cherry, vanilla.

This is a medium bodied, fruit forward wine with low tannins and good acidity. It finishes smooth and short with flavours of raspberry and vanilla.

Food Pairing: think grilled red meats, steak fajitas

Would I buy this Wine Again: This is a good introduction to red wine for those who tend to reach for whites more often or for those just venturing into the world of red wines.
Ironstone is noted for creating crowd-pleasing Zinfandels that are very fruit forward. This will suggest rich blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavours and a soft, easygoing palate. This is an excellent value wine. Source: Vintages Wine Panel, undated.
