Reviews and Ratings

Dianne Fisher - Sommelier, ISG rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Obsidian from Waiheke Island. One of the most beautiful places in New Zealand just a 20 minute ferry ride from Aukland. The island is known for its Merlot and for its easy way of life. This '09 vintage is a blend of cab sauv, merlot, petit verdot, cab franc, malbec and has been aged in French barriques. Layers of black fruit and plum with interesting accents of pimento and eucalyptus. Fresh on the palate, medium body, refreshing acidity with fine tannins that are persistent and integrated.

This wine was originally known as the Weeping Sands, but that name is being phased out for this non-reserve label, a move that reflects the closeness of this wine to the flagship Obsidian Reserve. This introductory-level Obsidian will offer great depth of cassis and black fruit and will reward a further 3-5 years in the cellar. Source: Vintages Wine Ratings and Reviews, undated.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
