Novaripa Monatic Amber Pinot Grigio from Terre di Chieti, Abruzzo I.G.P. is a dry, medium-bodied amber wine of real curiosity and character, produced using the Ramato method in which the grapes are hand-harvested, crushed and left to macerate on their skins for up to 12 hours before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel with periodic lees stirring, resulting in a beautiful copper-tinged hue and a richly expressive nose of roasted white peach, dried apricot, crushed fennel seed, orange zest and a thread of sea-salt minerality that is distinctly Adriatic in character. The name Monatic is a playful fusion of "moon" and "lunatic," reflecting the winery's belief in the influence of lunar phases on vine growth, and the wine was first made in 1969, the year of the moon landing, the same year Novaripa was founded by just 20 local farming families in the village of Ripa Teatina. Today the cooperative has grown to 400 grower-members farming 700 hectares across Abruzzo, a remarkable region where the dramatic Maiella and Gran Sasso mountains cast their cool shadow over vineyards that also catch the warm breeze of the Adriatic, creating a truly singular terroir for this style of wine. The Monatic Amber has earned recognition at Decanter Asia and the 5 Star Wines at Vinitaly, cementing its standing as a benchmark amber wine from southern Italy. Serve it lightly chilled alongside steamed mussels in white wine and garlic, where the wine's saline minerality and textured, slightly tannic body are a natural match; it is equally compelling alongside toasted butternut squash ravioli in Alfredo sauce, the wine's fruit-forward depth and lively acidity cutting through the richness beautifully. Enjoy through 2030.

Pinot Grigio food pairings: steamed mussels, toasted butternut squash ravioli served with Alfredo sauce, chicken Kiev.
