From the Rioja wine region, Nivarius 2016 is a dry, rich and full-bodied white wine blend of 70% Viura and 30% Maturana Blanca. Beautifully balanced and supple on the palate with ripe tropical fruit, pear and peach finishing long and elegant on a smoky, mineral note. Maturana Blanca is the oldest grape variety to have a written record in Rioja (1622).

Food pairings: seafood, poached salmon, summer squash ravioli, veal cutlets, grilled chicken, crab cakes and aioli.

Reviews and Ratings

Nivarius 2016 Special Edition Blanco is produced from white Tempranillo. Grapes are certified organic and the wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tank. The winery currently produces only white wine and “nivarius” is Latin for “ice box”. Vineyards are located on north-facing slopes at 800 metres above sea-level, a site so cold it was once a place to store snow for use as ice in the summer. You can imagine that the white wine grapes do retain their acidity. Look for crisp green apple, white florals and chalky mineral flavours creamy and vibrant on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
