Michelle Philippon's Derrière Le Crais from Santenay, Burgundy is a velvety, medium-bodied red wine offering notes of rose petal, ripe blackberry, morello cherry and wild strawberry. This dry wine displays well-defined fruit and supple texture that will continue to develop over the next four years. Serve it slightly below room temperature with roasted duck breast as the wine's aromatic character complements the rich meat, or pair it with veal cutlets in cream sauce where the wine's silky structure balances the tender meat. Winemaker Michelle Philippon crafts this concentrated Pinot Noir from the Derrière Le Crais vineyard in Santenay, where clay-limestone soils create wines with impressive depth and spiced complexity alongside an earthy undertone. Santenay sits at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and remains one of Burgundy's best-kept secrets, offering exceptional quality Pinot Noir at more accessible prices than its famous neighbors. This plush, fragrant wine represents excellent quality and will drink beautifully through 2030.

Food pairings: roast duck, turkey tournedos, veal cutlets.
