From the Limarí Valley wine region, Medalla Real Gran Reserva 2019 Chardonnay is produced by Santa Rita. Look for bright green apple, citrus zest, briny mineral and toasty oak spice flavours on this dry, medium-bodied Chardonnay. The vineyards are planted close to the Pacific Ocean in Chile which moderates both daytime and nighttime temperatures. Fog in the morning and the oceanic winds keep the acidity fresh in the grapes.

Chardonnay food pairings: lobster in butter sauce, gougère, pork tenderloin, steamed mahi mahi with lime, garlic and chilies.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Pale lemon green coloured dry Chardonnay benefiting from the Pacific ocean breezes and morning fog. Pronounced nose of honey, toasted pecans (I just toasted them; exact match!), caramel, coconut, white peach, lychee, vanilla, and buttered popcorn.
Medium bodied, dry and food friendly acidity. In the mouth the caramel, honey, toasted pecans, peach and lychee are still present; rich and smooth. I paired it with lobster tail skewers grilled with butter and lemon; unfortunately not a great match; a richer sauce may work better. It stood up well to a salad of fresh seasonal greens and crunchy sprouts dressed with garlic oil vinaigrette (Farm Boy). A rich sipper when you want to indulge yourself. I later tried this with white pizza made with pecorino cheese, which is nutty and a bit of parmesan, on a base of caramelized mushrooms, peppers and onions with garlic. The nuttiness and caramelized tone of the wine paired very well with this.
