Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

If you haven't explored Japanese whiskey yet, you're still in luck. Though most Suntory Whiskies raised their prices globally after Yamazaki Sherry Cask won best whisky in the world, Suntory is not the only place worth exploring.
This whisky comes from Nagano; high up in the village of Miyada. It is family owned and operated, and shows great typicity and value.
It has a similar mash bill to Bourbon and exhibits a fruiter take on the classic American style.
Similar amber colour, it has delicious flavours of brown sugar, cherry and berry, and something almost diacetyl-like (kettlecorn or butter).
It is quite racey and just 1% over typical proof. A bit more of a baking spice flavour emerges, but it is silky and smooth with more red fruit.
This would be a great mixer, but also a tasty rarity to have and show your connoisseur whisky friends.
From the Mars Shinshu Distillery in Japan, Mars Iwai is a corn-and-malt-based blend aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Rich with pear, quince, red berry and vanilla flavours on the palate. The distillery is located between Japan’s Southern Alps and the Central Alps at 2,600 feet above sea level in the southern Nagano Prefecture. The Hombo family have been distilling for more than a century adding whisky to their list of spirits in 1949. - Community Wine Reviews

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
