Marqués de Toro's Single Vineyard Mencía from Castilla y León is a vibrant, full-bodied red wine offering notes of ripe red plum, blackcurrant, smoked herbs, and a hint of espresso. This dry wine displays firm tannins that gradually soften, revealing a subtly savoury finish over the next five years. Serve it at room temperature with slow-braised blade roast as the wine's concentrated character complements the tender meat, or pair it with tourtière where the wine's spiced complexity balances the meat pie. Winemaker Jaime Álvarez de Toledo crafts this fragrant Mencía from forty to sixty year old vines in a single vineyard, adding layers of crushed thyme, marjoram and star anise alongside graphite complexity. The wine's fresh earth and juniper aromas showcase the grape's distinctive regional character. This firm, aromatic wine represents great value and will drink beautifully through 2031.

Mencía food pairings: slow-braised blade roast, brisket, tourtière.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
