Sweet purple plums and fleshy blueberries on the nose and palate. Almost full-bodied and very plush and smooth. The requisite grandfather story is on the back label along with the words 100% hand-crafted. Loaded with mocha and black icing, this is a liquid layer cake.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 84/100 with the following review:

Stewed and full-bodied. Deep dark and brooding with black and blue fruits( cassis, black plum, blueberry, black raspberry), violets, warm spices, black pepper, vanilla, cedar, smoke, chocolate. Length is long and tannic.Characteristics reminiscent to it's California cousin Zinfandel. Pasta with a heavy meat sauce, roasted beef, meat lovers pizza. Decanting suggested. Might cellar the next 2-3 years to help soften tannins.

A Jayson Woodbridge wine, he of 100 acre woods in California (think Christopher Robin). This Italian red wine is made from all Primitivo (Zinfandel) grapes grown on old vines planted in the iron-clay soil in the Manduria region. Its an IGT rather than DOC quality designation because the alcohol level is 13% not 14%. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
