La Massa Toscana I.G.T. from Panzano in Chianti is a medium-plus-bodied, bone-dry red blend that opens with aromas of dark cherry, dried plum, a whisper of tobacco, and warm baking spice. On the palate it's structured and layered, with ripe blackberry, iron-rich earth, mocha, and a long finish of polished, firm tannins that still have plenty of life in them. Owner and winemaker Giampaolo Motta, working alongside renowned Bordeaux consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, blends Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Alicante Bouschet, and Petit Verdot from 27 hectares of southwest-facing hillside vines in the estate's spectacular Conca d'Oro, whose history as a wine-producing property dates back to the 15th century. Serve it at room temperature now or cellar through 2031. Pour it alongside lamburgers stuffed with feta cheese, where the wine's dark fruit plays off the tangy cheese and charred lamb, or try it with a slow-roasted pork shoulder where the tannins soften beautifully against the rich, falling-off-the-bone meat.
