La Ferme du Mont's Le Ponnant Côtes du Rhône-Villages from Rhône is a lush, medium to full-bodied red wine blending Grenache and Syrah with notes of ripe blackberry, red plum, smoked fig, and allspice. This dry wine displays silky texture and considerable depth that will continue to develop over the next four years. Serve it at room temperature with braised short ribs as the wine's generous fruit complements the rich, falling-apart-tender meat, or pair it with herb-crusted standing rib roast where the wine's elegant finish balances the marbled beef. Winemaker Stéphane Vedeau crafts this nicely detailed wine from La Ferme du Mont's oldest Côtes du Rhône vineyard, where mature vines and diverse terroir create wines of remarkable complexity and minerality. Vedeau left his career as a professional footballer in France in 2000 to pursue winemaking, and has since become a superstar producer showcasing the exceptional quality possible in the southern Rhône. This broad, rich wine represents excellent value and will cellar beautifully through 2030.

Food pairings: braised beef ribs, Porterhouse steak, standing rib roast.
