Kindzmarauli Marani Saperavi from Kakheti, Georgia is a seductive, medium-bodied semi-sweet red produced entirely from Saperavi grapes grown in the protected Kindzmarauli microzone on the left bank of the Alazani River, in the picturesque foothills of the Great Caucasus where stony, mineral-rich soils and cooling mountain air lend the wine a surprisingly vibrant acidity that keeps its natural sweetness perfectly in check. It opens with a deeply inviting nose of crushed damson, wild blackcurrant, and a whisper of cinnamon and dried rose petal, leading to a plush, generous palate of mulberry jam, dark fig, and warm spice, all balanced by a lively, refreshing lift that makes this wine far more elegant than its sweetness might suggest. Serve it well chilled and enjoy it through 2028. Kindzmarauli Marani, established in Kvareli after privatisation in 1993, now produces 2 million bottles annually under a portfolio of 24 wines, exporting across Europe, North America, and Asia. Fascinatingly, the Kindzmarauli appellation itself has been internationally recognised since 1942 and the wine has accumulated over eight gold and silver medals at international competitions, while remaining one of Georgia's most historically cherished semi-sweet reds, long celebrated as a gift worthy of the most important tables.

Food pairings: slow-roasted pork belly with a plum and ginger glaze, aged blue cheese with walnut bread and honeycomb, roast duck with pomegranate molasses and warm spiced rice.
