Lots of lemon zest and minerality on the finish. A soft white wine with white pear notes. This French white wine from Sancerre in the Loire Valley is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Good acidity for halibut or sole. Some lime on the finish. Clean and fresh. Pair with seafood and salads.

Sancerre food pairings: salads, grilled chicken, seafood.

Reviews and Ratings

Jean-Max Roger Cuvée Les Caillottes (2016) is a zingy, zesty Sancerre from the Loire Valley. The wine is made with Sauvignon Blanc wine grapes, but the mineral, smoky, lemon vibrancy this wine imparts makes you wonder how they can make such a different, dry and oh so zesty Sauvignon Blanc. Well, it is the Loire and the grapes for this wine are located in the Upper Loire region of Sancerre and consist of three main components: Terres Blanches, with lots of fossils and marl creating wines with racy acidity; Caillottes (means small stone), which is limestone and gives wine roundness and good texture; and Silex, which is flint allowing a smoky, flinty character in the wine. Pair with pan-seared halibut. - Community Wine Reviews
