Outstanding vintage for this Niagara Peninsula Merlot. Lots of ripe plum, cherry, vanilla, mocha and caramel flavours on the palate with a long spicy finish. Tannins are velvety. Pair with grilled steak

Merlot food pairings: grilled porterhouse steak, calf’s liver with bacon and onions.

Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Plum and black cherry with vanilla and cinnamon. Plump and plush on the palate, typical Merlot tannins, gentle but firm, good acidity despite the heat of the vintage, and no discernable heat from the full body. Dry with jammy dark fruit flavours accented by cocoa and caramel. Mid-term aging potential. Got to go with a steak and mushroom dish with this red.
From the Niagara Peninsula Wine Region, Jackson-Triggs 2016 is a Grand Reserve Merlot (2016) from a strong vintage, rich with juicy blackberry, plum, mocha and toasty oak flavours on the palate. The wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and then barrel-aged for 12 months. Tannins are firm. Decant for two hours prior to pouring with a roast of pork with red plum sauce. - Community Wine Reviews
