Lots of dark chocolate and mocha from very, very generous oak aging. Full-bodied and smooth and juicy layers of chocolate-covered dark fleshy berries. Pair with Mexican mole or a chocolate inflected dish.

Montelpulciano D'abruzzo food pairings: espresso and cocoa-rubbed flank steak, lamb cutlets with pepperade and goat cheese, hamburgers, black bean soup.

Reviews and Ratings

This big Italian red wine won a Gold Medal at the 2013 Mundus Vini International wine competition. This wine is made from the Montepulciano grape. The vineyards are located on the hilltop town of Loreto Aprutino in the central Italian wine growing region of Abruzzi. This single vineyard wine is only produced in great years and is aged 12 months in French oak barrels. Pair with rich meat dishes. - Community Wine Reviews

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
