Hubert Brochard Sancerre from the Loire Valley is a dry, medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc of real classical elegance, with a small portion matured in old oak barrels and lees stirring adding a welcome richness and roundness to what is already a beautifully poised and expressive wine from one of the appellation's most respected family producers. Pale gold with a hint of green in the glass, it opens with a refined nose of dried verbena, fresh cucumber and a delicate suggestion of warm beeswax, flowing into flavours of blood grapefruit, green fig and a cool, piercing streak of flint on the palate, all carried by a bright, balanced acidity and a finish of impressive length and precision. It is bone dry and best served well chilled, drinking beautifully now and rewarding cellaring through 2029. The Brochard family has been cultivating vines in Sancerre for generations, and their deep understanding of this celebrated Loire appellation's chalky Kimmeridgian soils shines through in every sip of this wine, which manages to be simultaneously generous and refined in a way that only the finest Sancerre can achieve. Serve it alongside goat cheese bruschetta drizzled with honey and fresh thyme, where the wine's flinty minerality and citrus precision will play beautifully against the creamy, tangy cheese, or pair it with a silky asparagus risotto finished with parmesan and lemon zest, letting its green fig depth and vibrant acidity weave seamlessly into every rich, vegetal bite.

Food pairings: goat cheese bruschetta, grilled chicken, asparagus risotto.
