Herdade do Peso Trinca Bolotas Alentejo D.O.C. is a dry, medium to full-bodied blend of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Aragonez opening with a richly aromatic nose of sloe berry, dried fig, crushed violets, cumin, and a thread of sun-baked earth and cedar that speaks warmly of the southern Portuguese landscape. On the palate it is generously fruited and well-structured, with smooth tannins, lively acidity, and a long, savoury finish of espresso, dried olive, and warm spice that lingers with real Alentejo character. Serve at room temperature and enjoy from 2026 through 2032. Winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida, who was named Winemaker of the Year 2024 by Portuguese wine magazine Revista de Vinhos, crafts this wine from 12 distinct soil types mapped across the estate's 160 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards on the limestone soils of Vidigueira, a sub-region that stays cooler than much of the Alentejo thanks to Atlantic air funnelled inland through a natural gap in the surrounding mountains. The estate, owned by the Guedes family since 1996, sits alongside olive groves that date back to Roman times, and takes its wine's spirited name from the Trinca Bolotas, the acorn-cracking Iberian black pigs that roam freely through the Alentejo's oak forests, playing a vital role in preserving the region's ecosystem and gastronomy. Pair it with grilled pork chops and a roasted pepper sauce, where the wine's savoury depth and dark fruit will embrace the richness of the dish, or try it alongside chicken paprika with egg noodles, letting the wine's warm spice and lively acidity cut through the smoky, cream-enriched sauce.

Food pairings: chicken paprika, meat-filled pasta with rich tomato sauce, grilled pork chops, gourmet burgers.
