Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A typical though elegant Rioja red sporting aromas of cherry, leather, tobacco, dill, vanilla and oak spice, and just a touch of an earthy hint. Nicely built with moderate acidity, body, and tannins framing a tasty and concentrated palate. Very nice through the finish. Match this with grilled pork chops or tenderloin topped with a red berry compote.
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Quite a find for under $22.00! A pleasant juiciness with very smooth tannins, this Tempranillo based wine (with up to 15% Graciano) comes from old vines between 50-70 years old. The wine delivers as a great day to day option, best enjoyed alongside a simple steak dinner with the family. The earthy notes in the wine balance well with the red and black fruit notes, where the acidity level makes this wine shine when paired with the right dish. Definitely worth checking out!
From the Rioja wine region Hazaña Vinas Viejas is a rich and robust 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano red wine blend produced from 50 to 70 year old, dry-farmed grape vines. Look for ripe red and dark berry fruit, sweet spice, anise and dried sweet tobacco leaf flavours smooth and rich on the palate. Tannins are velvety. Enjoy now and for the next three years. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
