From the Sicily wine region, Graffetta 2019 Nero D'avola is produced from grapes sourced from mostly volcanic soils. The wine is fresh, medium-bodied with medium-plus acidity in balance with the ripe red berry fruit, plum, savoury herbs and spicy flavours on the palate. Enjoy with a meat-lover's pizza or medium-aged cheeses. Drink or hold.

Nero D'avola food pairings: charcuterie, medium-aged hard cheeses, beef brisket.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Deep purple coloured wine with a pronounced aroma of black plum, black currant, fennel, cedar, an earthy tang and flint/wet stones. The wine is dry, with medium plus acidity and medium body and medium alcohol. It is lean in the mouth and best drunk with food rather than sipped on its own. It paired very well with beef braised in mushrooms and herbs; this complemented the wines earthy tang and herbal notes. Sadly it does not pair well with dark chocolate; the fruity notes in the wine need to be fruitier for a better match.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
