Still love this style of old vines Rioja! In fact, the vineyards were originally owned by the wife of Napoleon III and she was the last Empress of France. A classy classic blend of mostly Tempranillo with a splash of Grenache, Viura and Graciano fermented in stainless steel. Medium-bodied with fresh cherry, red berry fruit and cake spice. Balanced, fresh with good acidity for food. Pair with a veal Porterhouse steak.

Food pairings: beef, lamb stew, old cheddar.

From Finca La Emperatriz Reserva 2014 is a full-bodied Tempranillo, Grenache, Viura and Graciano red wine blend fermented in stainless steel and matured in 70% American and 30% French oak barrels for almost two years. The grapes come from old vines over 60 years of age in a vineyard planted at 570 metres, with a continental climate influenced by the Cantabrian Sea. Fresh and zesty with red berry, plum and spicy on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
