Faustino I Gran Reserva 2009 is a classic, full-bodied and spicy Rioja red. fragrant with dark spices, savoury herbs, dark plum, cherry, dried fruit and vibrant on the palate. Lovely now but also a good cellaring candidate (five to eight years). Pour with grilled red meats.

Food pairings: tomato based meat curries, aged cheeses, braised beef ribs, Porchetta, roast chicken, osso buco.

Reviews and Ratings

Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

What I love about Spanish wines is how many of the wineries put several years of bottle age on their wines before releasing them. Faustino 1 is no exception; some of their older vintages can be found at the LCBO. This is a limited edition, created to celebrate the 75th birthday of Faustina’s owner, Don Julio Martinez. A blend of mainly Tempranillo with some Graciano, it’s a full-bodied, earthy, deeply complex wine with velvety acidity and notes of black fruit – blackberry and black cherry – leather, smoke, tobacco, and cigar box on the nose will develop with age. Great for its price, decant for at least 30 minutes before serving with wild game or rich, braised leg of lamb.
Faustino I Gran Reserva 2009 is a special, limited-edition blend of 92% Tempranillo and 8% Graciano. This wine is made in honour of Faustino's owner, Don Julio Martinez 75th birthday. The blend was aged for 25 months in French and American oak. Lots of rich dark fruit with savoury smokiness on Rioja red. Pair it with grilled game meats. - Community Wine Reviews
