Reviews and Ratings

Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

It is hard to find good Pinot Noirs from that area of the world; the wines' structure and balanced acidity are quite impressive! Silky tannins with lots of sour cherry notes on the palate combined with raspberries and strawberries. This wine gets some cinnamon, cloves, and black tea flavours from being touched with oak. Very good for its price point.
Elgin Vintners 2015 Pinot Noir is produced with grapes from three vineyards in the Elgin wine region in the Western Cape: 74.1% Elgin Orchards, 11.2% Eikenhof and 14.7% Wallovale Vineyards. The grapes were destemmed and were whole bunch berry pre-fermented maceration for four days. The wine juice was fermented in both open fermenters with punch downs and closed steel tanks with regular pump overs for a period of 18 days and was matured in French oak barriques, of which 25% were new wood for 10 months. The PN did see malolactic conversion before the winter months and remained on the lees for the balance of its maturation. In the glass, the wine is bright ruby with ripe cherries and fresh herbs on the nose. On the palate, the wine is dry, fruity with ripe red cherry flavours, red berry, cake spice and green tea notes. Acidity is good and tannins are fine and silky. - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
