Domaine d'Argenson Cuvée Brulhié Coteau Sud Côte de Brouilly Gamay is a compelling, single-plot Beaujolais cru drawn from the historic Brulhié parcel on the sun-drenched southern slopes of Mont Brouilly, where Gamay vines averaging 57 years old dig deep into ancient blue volcanic stone soils of eruptive origin. The estate has been shaped since 2016 by winemaker and owner David Meheust, who took over a small property without a successor and, alongside his father-in-law, transformed it through lower yields, sustainable Terra Vitis certification, and whole-bunch maceration in concrete tanks followed by partial oak aging, coaxing far greater depth and character from these old vines. The wine pours a deep garnet and opens with a brooding, complex nose of dark plum, dried herbs and a thread of iron-rich minerality, with a faint floral lift that speaks to the volcanic terroir beneath. On the palate it is medium-bodied and dry, with a silky texture and dark, concentrated fruit framed by supple tannins and a smoky, lingering finish. Serve it lightly chilled and drink it through 2028. It is a natural companion to a slow-cooked beef daube with olives and herbes de Provence, where the wine's earthy depth and dark fruit are right at home, or try it with a charcuterie and aged cheese board anchored by a slice of country pâté and a slick of Dijon mustard for a quintessentially French bistro pairing.

Food pairings: slow-cooked beef daube with olives and herbes de Provence, charcuterie and aged cheese board with country pâté, roasted duck legs with cherry sauce.
