Desquiciado Malbec from Tupungato, Uco Valley, Mendoza is a dry, medium-bodied red with an expressive and inviting nose of ripe blackcurrant, dried hibiscus, lavender, anise, and a thread of chalky minerality that speaks clearly of its high-altitude Gualtallary origins. On the palate it is youthful and fluid, with juicy tannins, bright snappy acidity, and a clean, lingering finish of dark fruit and earthy herbs that keeps the wine remarkably drinkable. Serve slightly below room temperature and enjoy now through 2026. Co-founders Gonzalo Tamagnini and Martín Sesto launched Desquiciado in 2016, sourcing Malbec from young vines planted in shallow calcareous alluvial soils in Gualtallary, where rounded stones and pockets of sand give the wine its characteristic tension and mineral edge. They craft the wine using traditional stainless steel fermentation followed by nine months of aging in well-used third and fourth-fill barrels for approximately 70% of the blend, with the remaining 30% kept in tank to keep the fruit vibrant and the palate lively - a technique that gives the wine its distinctive freshness and approachability. The winery's name, Desquiciado, translates roughly as "unhinged" in Spanish, capturing the founders' independent, rule-breaking spirit in a region that increasingly rewards those bold enough to think differently. Pair it with beef bourguignon, where the wine's earthy mineral notes and bright fruit will weave beautifully into the slow-braised richness of the dish, or pour it alongside roast chicken with herb butter, letting its lively acidity cut cleanly through the golden skin.

Malbec food pairings: roast chicken, ribs, beef bourgignon, roast goose.
