Natalie's Score: 88/100

Lots of oak, smoke and toast on the nose of this robust Chilean red wine. Full-bodied and supple smooth. Carmenere, as a grape, consistently over-delivers on the price-quality ratio. Pair with a pepper steak and good friends. Finishes with toasted coffee and spices. Pair with prime rib.

Carmenère food pairings: wine-braised beef, game, rustic bread, turkey with heavy sauces, wild boar.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 80/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied with aromas and flavours of cassis, warm spices, earthiness, green pepper. Tannins get a grip on the mouth and don't let go. Long warm alcohol and pepper finish.
Tasted: Sept 2015
Produced by Viña Siegel, there's smoke and spice on the nose of this value-priced Chilean red wine, with blackberry and blueberry notes on the palate. Full-bodied and supple smooth. Carmenere, as a grape, consistently over-delivers on the price-quality ratio. Pair with a pepper steak and good friends. The vines are planted at 360 metres above sea level. The high altitude El Crucero vineyard benefits from both warm days and cool nights, which concentrates the flavour and complexity in the grapes and wine. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
