Surprisingly low in alcohol for such a full-bodied, full-flavoured Californian zinfandel. Pure delicious! Smoky with fleshy black fruit. Complex zinfandel in all its glory. Yahoo! Old vines truly do make a difference to the complexity and concentration of flavour, especially in zinfandel. Finishes with dark spice, smoke and pepper. Pair with spaghetti and meat balls.

Zinfandel food pairings: steaks, ribs, grilled meats, pasta sauces, pizza, cheese, hearty stews, blackened seafood.

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Attention Zinfandel lovers! Finally a full-bodied California Zinfandel that doesn't club the taster over the head. Lots of delectable dark fruit- cassis, black cherry, black raspberry with vanilla, pepper, cocoa and cigar box. Hence the name. The acidity is balanced and cleansing. The alcohol at 14.9% surprisingly doesn't taste hot. Tannins are polishing. Lingering length on a warm pepper finish. Excellent BBQ wine. Decant 1-2 hours.
Tasted: February 2015
This is truly an unapologetic, big Californian Zinfandel with loads of chocolate and toasty oak. Unleash full power on your palate. - Community Wine Reviews
