Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep purple wine, high alcohol, full bodied, medium plus acidity and medium tannins. It has a pronounced nose featuring ripe cherry (black and red), plum and raspberry, kirsch, sweet spice (particularly cloves), vanilla, and floral notes and hint of pepper. The nose is sweet. The palate features kirsch, ripe black and red fruit, particularly cherry, cloves and vanilla; a well integrated wine. I liked it on its own; so many flavours and aromas and as it opened more developed. It paired well with beef stew cooked in red wine with bay leaf.
Grapes are primarily from old vines and vineyards at an altitude of 900 meters and are . Winemaking is careful: 25% of the grape is destemmed, 75% whole clusters. Cold maceration, fermentation at low temperature in tinas and concrete tanks for about 21 days. Combination of ageing in eggs and barrels of 300 and 500 liters of French oak.
From the Calatayud wine region, Clos Baltasar 2017 Grenache is bright with raspberry, cherry, cedar and baking spice flavours silky on the palate. Produced from 100% Grenache, the wine is fresh, zesty and ready to drink now. Pour with grilled chicken dishes. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
