Château de Montfaucon La Côte from the Côtes du Rhône A.O.P. is a dry, medium-bodied red blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, and Counoise, a rich and fragrant Rhône tapestry brimming with sun-warmed wild strawberry, black fig, crushed lavender, toasted garrigue, and a whisper of black tea on the finish. Winemaker and owner Rodolphe de Pins, known affectionately as "Rudi," took over this 88-acre estate in 1995 after honing his craft at the legendary Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and its newly certified organic vineyards (from the 2021 vintage onward) sit just across the Rhône River from that hallowed appellation, offering Châteauneuf-quality character at a fraction of the price. Fascinatingly, the parcels that supply this wine lie in the historic heartland of what was once called La Côte du Rhône, considered one of the very foundations of France's entire appellation system. Serve it slightly below room temperature alongside a slow-braised chicken with olives and tomatoes, where the wine's earthy herb notes weave beautifully through the dish; it is equally at home with a simple pork and lentil stew, where the wine's plush tannins and bright acidity cut through the richness with effortless grace. Enjoy through 2028.

Food pairings: sausage cassoulet, roast chicken, duck confit.
