Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Chateau de Malleret Haut Medoc 2009

In the glass the wine has a medium depth with a garnet rim. On the nose there is a well projected scent of blackberries and cherries with some integrated herbal and earthy notes. Like the nose, the palate shows blackberry/blackcurrant and cherries along with earthy/herbal notes of hawthorne, licorice and chestnut as well as a pleasant drift of musty cellar . Both the body and the intensity here are medium with age softened tannins and it is drinking very well now. The finish is persistent.

It's a rare pleasure to have an affordable and ready Bordeaux from an excellent vintage. The blend here is 56% Merlot, 41.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Petit Verdot. The property is located 15 km from Bordeaux, boasts a large 17th century chateau and is situated on 700 acres. This wine won Silver at the Concours Agricole 2012 wine competition in Paris.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
