A rich, full-bodied southern French red wine with layers of fleshy black plum, mocha, and a gorgeous velvet texture. Layers of complexity and pleasure. Pair with roast beef.

Syrah food pairings: roast prime rib, hearty stews and soups, grilled lamb chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Tasty and concentrated Syrah from a region so warm, even Syrah struggles. Schistous soil is famed in places like Beaujolais for giving thebwine a backbone of structure that makes wines persistent, ageworthy, and delicious.
This wine is near-opaque, with ruby and purple edges.
Huge aromas of garrigue herbs, olive, prune, cassi, and pepper.
The flavours are tremendously tannic, but very ripe. Unctuous spice cupboard and black fruit.
This wil lbe a great mid-term cellar candidate, but also nice now with a half hour decanting. Pair with roast leg of lamb.
Produced by Château de l'Ou, Secret De Schistes 2014 is a deliciously layered, full-bodied Syrah from the Côtes Catalanes, Roussillon wine region. Look for blackberry jam, dried herbs, lavender, salinity and black olives with a lingering finish on the palate. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
