Delicious, savoury, meaty, smoky and wonderful for the price. This full-bodied southern French red wine is a terrific candidate for parties, not just for taste but also it's only 13% alcohol.

Malbec food pairings: chicken herb-rubbed roast, duck breast with celeriac purée, breaded veal cutlets, tagliatelle alla Bolognese, lamb burgers, spicy sausage.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A deeply rich and smoky full-bodied red wine from the Cahors - the "home" of Malbec. Love the smoke, toast and leather nuances in this wine that precede the succulent black fruit and earthiness. Fresh acidity compliments the fruit and oak. A great price wine from this area of Southern France. Buy two and taste the rewards in 5 years. Pair with a rack of lamb, blackened chicken. Great price performer.
Tasted: June 2015
Toasty oak on the nose yields to fleshy black fruit on the palate. This winery is located in the old medieval castle in the village of Albas. It overlooks the Lot River at an altitude of 240 metres or 780 feet. Vines are planted on plateaus in chalky-clay soils and iron pebbles. - Community Wine Reviews
