Natalie's Score: 90/100

From the Right Bank of the Bordeaux, Château Cantenac 2014 is a complex and deep ruby Grand Cru Saint-Émilion produced from Vielles Vignes Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The blend is Merlot dominant with 20% Cabernet Franc. Fragrant nose of dusty herbs, ripe black currant and campfire smoke. It is dry, savoury with ripe red and dark berries, dark plum and well-integrated oak spice Tannins are firm and this beauty can easily cellar for three more years to show its best. Decant for one hour prior to pouring with a rich game dish like roast pheasant.

Food pairings: duck confit with roasted little potatoes, tourtiere, grilled game meats.

Reviews and Ratings

From Nicole Roskam-Brunot & Fils, Château Cantenac 2014 is a well-priced Grand Cru Saint-Émilion from the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region. This is a dry, rich and layered Old Vines red wine blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc with a ripe, dark cassis nose, smoke and sous bois, savoury spice, dark plum and dusty herbs on the palate. Cellar for three years, or decant for one hour prior to pouring it with a grilled beef bavette now . This wine was aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 40% of which was new. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
